This is a cute romantic and funny drama that shows 3 different couples and the issues that they have. It also focuses on friendships and careers and the issues that arise from that. Honest opinion, I would say when I watched this show, it was a breathe of fresh air because this year in kdramaland there have been more drama's based on crime, mystery, time travel than just a regular rom com that we all love. I would say that I really enjoyed the first 14 episodes however, the last two episodes were abit disappointing for me but if you haven't seen it, I would still recommend it was a good drama.
Spoilers Below:
Main Couple - Ji Ho and Se Hee
For me this couple was refreshing, I liked both leads, even though I hadn't seen them before. They matched really well together in their own awkward kind of way. I remember the beginning episodes where they became roommates and they didn't know it, and then he asked her to get married and then they did get get married. Which was all moving so fast but it worked for them. I think one of the things about this couple was that they communicated, there wasn't those usual misunderstandings. If someone didn't like something they would say it.
Also, I would like to point out that they mention the movie the graduate a lot in this drama. It is a hollywood film that came out in the 60s. The wedding bus seen (as seen on the picture above) is actually taken from the movie. A basic summery of the parts of the movie that they used is that the main guy in the movie just graduated from University but he doesn't really know what he wants to do so he somehow ends up sleeping with his fathers work partners wife. But then he falls in love with her daughter, they grew up together but they only go out on one date and his already in love. A lot of drama happens and she ends up accepting the proposal of another guy. So on their wedding day, the main guy goes to the church and they run away together but the ending scene when their on the bus their faces turn from happy to sad because after the adrenaline is gone you find out that you’re just a couple of people sitting on a bus, wondering who the hell you and the person beside you are?
Gosh, i didn't mean to write so much about that movie but I do feel the writer had a lot of inspiration from this movie. The two main points being they are two people who don't really know each other sitting on a bus, the woman in a wedding dress, Ji ho and Se Hee going to get married and I feel as though this drama wanted to show what happens after this movie ends. Another point is the unemployment aspect of it. Ji ho, started out as a writing assistant and she was following her dream, she ran away from home to go to a University in Seoul and was very smart. So basically, she could have been anything she wanted but she decided was she wanted to write.
Then a lot of drama happens, the sexual assault, them taking her writing and I remember watching this scene when she was walking at night and almost crying because it touched my heart. I got all emotional. It was kind of like, sometimes your dreams just don't come true and that's reality. Not everyone is going to be a singer, actress, lawyer, doctor or whatever. And sometimes it's good to see that side because there are people in the world who didn't achieve their dream for different reasons.
Lead Chemistry Levels
They were an awkward cute fluffy couple. They matched so well, the casting department did well here. I loved them watching football together, the way that even though they were fake married, living together. Little things like holding hands, hugging were such a big deal. It made my heart flutter. Beautiful.
I will just leave this here because this kiss was everything, it was a real kiss and I loved how she actually asked for more, lol. And then the aftermath of it when she was all horny was hilarious.
Fave Couple - Su Ji and Sang Goo
My favourite couple of the show, I loved them from the beginning until the end. I liked that she was a strong indepedent career woman. We got to see the unfair treatment that some women experience at work and for her she sat there and she took it for years because she had to support herself and her mother. So, it was a complete change from the main female lead. I liked the guy as well because he cared for her and wanted to protect her. Loved her unconditionally and it was nice to see him slowly break down the walls she had built up to protect herself.
With this couple, I understood their struggles and issues from each point of view. It made sense and they were also quite funny together.
This was my fave moment.
I swear I had a female crush at this moment. |
The couple that should have stayed broken up - Ho Rang and Won Seok
This couple touched on an issue that I think a lot of women need to be wise about. But I don't really like how they ended it because it's not really realistic. Let me just start by saying the couple is cute, even in this picture. But their main issue was that they have been together for 7 years and she is in her 30s now and she wants to get married, whilst he has got this app, following his dream, looking for investors. So right now, marriage, children is not his most important priority.
To set the scene, the house they live in, she paid for the deposit, probably pays for most of the rent, cooks for him, they made it clear that they sleep together as well. So basically she was playing the role of the wife even though she wasn't the wife.
There was a quote in this drama actually and it went something like People want to only get married if there is something to gain, some benefit or it makes their life better. Something along those lines.
So, from the guy's mind getting married won't really make him gain anything because she is already doing things a wife would do. The only thing getting married will do is give him issues, now he will have to deal with inlaws more often, they have to get a new apartment, she will want children that he right now cannot even afford to provide for.
My issue is if you are in a relationship with someone you should communicate, as women if marriage is the end goal for you, then you need to have a conversation, not ask him to marry you but after a 1 or 2. You will know if this person is someone you see yourself getting married to or not. Have a conversation, ask if they see marriage as the end goal. If it's a no then you know where that person stands and you won't end up wasting 7 years of your time because trust me, men can string a woman along for years if you let them and then when they find the right one they will propose within a year.
Also, other things about this couple was that, there was a lot of mis communication, they didn't listen or speak to each other and it was a really toxic relationship and for myself when they broke up I was happy. Of course, after being together with someone for 7 years, they will probably know you like the back of their hand but the fact that they brought in this guy who was basically her but worse in terms of the whole marriage thing was a lame move. She should have taken some time to find herself, then to date properly. Have fun before she found the right one.
But of course, it's a kdrama so they ended up back together, they didn't really resolve any of their issues, she asked him to marry her, he agreed and we are meant to believe its happily ever after but to me I see incoming divorce in 5 years.
The ending
How did something that started out so great end up so poor. For me the down hill of this couple was at the point when she said that she wanted to end the fake marriage contract. At this point he wanted to confess his feelings to her. They had both said they wanted to say something, he had let her speak first of course, this is a kdrama after all and then the down hill of it all started. She wanted to leave him.
The thing that made me disappointed was the fact that she really didn't have a reason for leaving, with each person that she spoke to about it, she gave a different reason. Which in turn made the other reasons not valid. In the end it felt like she was just talking for sake of talking. Her mother said it best "stop talking crap."
I feel as though some people think it was necessary for her to leave him because he wasn't showing his feelings as much as she would have liked, she wanted him to cry for her, to be angry, to say I love you.
But if you are together with someone or you like someone and they leave you without an explanation, (that letter she wrote said nothing, it was just more crap) and then they expect to just come back into your life as if nothing had happened. Again without a real explanation to me is horrible.
He was the one most of the times, that showed affection towards her, that pushed this relationship along the way. The dates, the sleeping in the same room, holding hands, the kisses at the sea and more. To me it looked like manipulation, in the end she got what she wanted, they showed him basically at her back and call. I really didn't like the last episode. It didn't feel natural or romantic, the writers took away what made this couple great for me in the last episodes. Which I never expected. He sold his house, which had the perfect location to everything, because of love. Which I think is quite stupid.
Also, the fact that she gave up a really good writing job, quit her cafe job, left him and moved out was probably the most frustrating thing she ever did. I get that she would have had to work with the ex girlfriend but a smart person would have stayed for at least a year or 2, built a reputation for herself before moving on.
The fact that she was being offered these amazing jobs without even applying was very unrealistic and sloppy writing, in my opinion. This went from being something that was relatable to being a fairytale ending where the fairy godmother grants your wishes without you doing anything for it.
The end message they tried to sell us was that love is more important than the institution of marriage but they fell in love whilst pretending to be married. So that fell flat. I think I was really invested in this drama, that is probably why the last two episodes disappointed me so much. But I know some people loved it and I respect their opinions, I just hope people respect mine.
Skips
I don't think I skipped any parts of the drama but watching the last two episodes was very hard and I kept on pausing and coming back just to finish the drama.
Rating
6.5 is my overall rating for this drama. I do have to say that around episode 14 I would have rated this drama a 9.5. So, it dropped that much. But regardless of the last two episodes, I do have to say that I enjoyed this show a lot and I would still recommend it.
